How do I write and publish an article on my website?

Open Website > Articles, press Write an article, fill in the title, address, date and body, tick Published and Save. Others save drafts; owners publish.

Where: Website > Articles

Who can do this: Owners

Articles are guides for parents and athletes in your coaches' words, such as "What age can kids start ninja classes?". Each answers a question families search for and links to the page where they sign up.

Before you begin

  • Owners publish, unpublish and delete articles. People who can edit articles but are not owners can save drafts.
  • Pick a topic families ask about: starting age, competitions, camps, parties.

Steps

  1. Open Articles and press + Write an article.
  2. Type a Title the way a parent would type it into Google (at least five characters).
  3. Set the Address, which becomes /articles/ followed by your words, in small letters, numbers and dashes. Pick the Date.
  4. Choose the Author. A coach's name shows their photo and links to their card. The gym's name is also an option.
  5. Write a Search Snippet (Up to 160 Characters), the short line Google may show.
  6. Write the Article (at least 200 characters). Use a blank line between paragraphs, ## Heading, dashes for lists, **bold** and [words](/parties) for links.
  7. Optional: Questions Parents Ask (optional) and Buttons at the End (optional), one per line as words | link. The first button is the main one.
  8. Tick Published on the website (owners only) and press Save. Without the tick, it is saved as a draft. Use Preview to see how it will look.

What you'll see

  • The Articles list shows each article with a Draft badge when needed, its author and date, with Edit and View or Preview buttons.
  • Once one article is published, a public Articles page appears, linked in the footer. Articles show the author, the questions and the buttons you added.
  • Changing a published article's title or body records an "updated" date.
  • A notice tells owners how many drafts are waiting to be read and published.

Troubleshooting

"The article is too short to help anyone yet." Write at least 200 characters.

"There is already an article at that address." Change the address.

I can't tick Published. Only an owner can publish. Ask an owner to open the article and publish it.

Deleting. Owners can press Delete in the article. History can restore it.

Questions

How often should I post?

The screen suggests two a month is plenty. Write each article the way a parent would search for it.

Can I add questions to an article?

Yes. Use Questions Parents Ask with Q: on one line and A: on the next, and Google can show them under the article.

How do I format the body?

Leave a blank line between paragraphs. Use ## for a heading, a dash at the start of a line for a list, 1. for steps, bold, and words for links.
