How do I keep my old website's links working when I move to NinjaHQ?

Open Website > Redirects, scan your old website, check where each old page goes, press Looks right, and add any by hand. They work once your domain moves.

Where: Website > Redirects

Who can do this: Owners

When your domain moves to NinjaHQ, old links from Google, Facebook and other websites should land on the right page. Redirects do that.

Before you begin

  • Only owners can change redirects.
  • You need your current website's address, such as https://www.yourgym.com.

Steps

1. Scan your current website

  1. Open Redirects.
  2. In step 1, type your current website in the box and press Scan my website. It takes up to a minute. It reads the site's sitemap and follows its links, then picks the matching page on your new site from each old page's address, title and words.
  3. A scan only reads your old site. It does not change it.

2. Check where each old page goes

Results are in groups:

  • Needs a look: we couldn't tell where these go. Pick the right page from the list (it saves straight away), or press ✓ Looks right.
  • Matched: confirm: we picked these. Check each and press ✓ Looks right, or press ✓ Confirm all at the top of the group.
  • Confirmed: pages you chose or confirmed.
  • Same address: nothing to do.

Use the Find an old address or page… box when the list is long, and the chips (All, Needs a look, To confirm, Confirmed, Same address, Used since launch) to filter. The ↗ button tries an address, and ✕ deletes a redirect.

3. Add or fix by hand

Open + Add a redirect by hand, type the Old Address, such as about-us or www.yourgym.com/about-us, choose Goes To, and press Add. ↻ Match again re-picks the best page for every address you haven't chosen yourself. Choosing "No matching page" makes that old address show the "page not found" page.

What you'll see

  • A ring shows how many old pages have a home, and how many still need a look.
  • Each redirect counts visits since it started working.
  • Delete the scanned redirects removes everything the scan made and keeps the ones you added by hand.

Troubleshooting

The scan found few pages. Some old sites have no sitemap. Add the missing addresses by hand.

Products went to the wrong place. Pick the right page in the list for that address. Your choice is never overwritten by a rescan.

Questions

Will I lose my Google rankings when I move?

Redirects send visitors, Google and links on other sites from your old pages to the right new pages. That is how your search rankings come with you.

What does "Same address" mean?

Your new site has a page at the same address, so the old link already works and needs no redirect.

Do the redirects work before my domain moves?

They start working the moment your domain points to NinjaHQ. Until then you can try them on your preview address.
