How do I sell gift cards on my website?
On Shop > Gift cards tick Sell gift cards on the website and set the amounts to offer. Families pick a design, pay on Stripe, and the card is emailed.
Your website has a Gift cards page where families buy a card for an amount they choose. The card is emailed with a printable PDF.
Before you begin
- Your Stripe account must be connected for online sales. Without it the page says gift cards are sold at the front desk.
- Only owners change the website settings for gift cards.
Steps
- Open Gift cards.
- Scroll to the On the website card.
- Tick Sell gift cards on the website.
- In Amounts to Offer, type dollar amounts separated by commas, for example 25, 50, 100. Customers can also choose their own amount between $10 and $500.
- Press Save. The link next to the box opens your public /gift-cards page.
What families see
- Choose a Design. Classic, Birthday, Congrats and Thanks all year. Holiday designs show only in the weeks before each holiday.
- Amount, Who it's for (their name and, optionally, their email) and When Should We Email It? (right away or on a date).
- A Message (optional) and From: their name, mobile phone and email.
- A live picture of the card, then Continue to payment to Stripe.
After payment the buyer gets a confirmation with a printable copy of the card, and the recipient gets the card with its code and a PDF. Leaving the recipient's email empty sends the card to the buyer to give in person.
What you'll see
At the top of the Gift cards page you see how much money is still on active cards. Under All gift cards each card shows its last four characters, who it is for and from, value, amount left, date sold and status. Search by last four, name or email.
The same page has a Check a balance box for families. Families use a card by typing its code into the discount or gift card box at checkout, or by showing it at the front desk.
Troubleshooting
The gift card page says cards are sold at the front desk. Stripe is not connected for online sales yet.
A card was bought for the wrong person. Look it up with Look up a gift card and use Void this card if it must be cancelled. Owners only.
Questions
Do gift cards expire?
No. They never expire, and whatever is not spent stays on the card.
Is a gift card sale counted as income?
The Gift cards page shows the money on active cards as money customers can still spend, not income until it is spent. QuickBooks skips gift card sales.
Can a buyer send it on a later date?
Yes, when the card goes to someone else the buyer can choose a date up to a year ahead. It is emailed at 8 AM that day and the buyer gets a copy now.
