How do I decorate my website for the holidays?
Open Website > Holiday decorations, tick the holidays you want and press Save holidays. Each turns on by itself on its first day and ends after its last.
Holiday decorations dress up your website with the same fun you put up in the gym: cobwebs, snow, hearts and more. They switch on and off by themselves.
Before you begin
Only owners can change the choices. Other signed-in people see the page but can't tick the boxes.
Steps
- Open Holiday decorations.
- Look at each holiday card. It shows a small preview, the dates it runs this year and what it looks like.
- Tick the holidays you want:
- Halloween (October 1 to 31)
- Thanksgiving (November 1 to Thanksgiving)
- Christmas & winter holidays (the day after Thanksgiving to December 26)
- New Year (December 27 to January 2)
- Valentine's Day (February 1 to 14)
- St. Patrick's Day (March 10 to 17)
- Easter (the two weeks before Easter)
- Fourth of July (June 27 to July 5)
- Press Save holidays.
- To see exactly what families will see, press Preview on my website under any holiday. It opens your home page with that holiday on. Previews work on any page by adding ?holiday= and the holiday's name to the address, but the link on this screen does it for you.
What you'll see
- A note at the top says "Showing now: " the current holiday and when it ends, or that none of your holidays is on right now.
- During a holiday, your header and page get pieces such as snow, lights, a footer scene, and a small themed hat on your logo. On phones the decorations are lighter so that the Sign in, Cart and Menu buttons stay clear.
- Holiday decorations are also a step in Getting started.
Troubleshooting
I ticked a holiday and nothing shows. It only shows on its dates. Use Preview on my website to see it now.
The animation distracts someone. Tap an empty part of the header to pause it. Pausing is remembered for that visitor's tab.
The boxes are grayed out. Only owners can change them.
Questions
Do I have to turn them on and off each year?
No. Tick a holiday once and it appears every year on its dates.
Will decorations cover my buttons or words?
No. They stay out of the way of your words and buttons. Visitors who turn off motion on their phone see them standing still.
Can visitors stop the animation?
Yes. Tapping or clicking an empty part of the header pauses and resumes it, and there is also a "Pause holiday animation" button for keyboard users.
