How do I connect ChatGPT or Claude as my AI assistant?

Open Website > AI assistant, pick ChatGPT or Claude, add a custom connector with your gym's name and address (site plus /mcp), then press Yes, connect.

Where: Website > AI assistant

Who can do this: Owners, Managers

The AI assistant lets you update your website by chatting with ChatGPT or Claude: change the schedule, add a closure, a coach or a photo, or check your visitors. You connect the assistant once, and it asks before it saves anything.

Before you begin

  • You must be an owner or a manager. Front desk Staff accounts cannot connect.
  • You need your own ChatGPT or Claude account. See the FAQ for plan requirements.
  • Use a computer for setup.

Steps

  1. Open AI assistant under Website.
  2. If the page says the connector is off, an owner presses Switch it on. (Connecting an app from the consent page also switches it on.)
  3. Under Connect in five steps ("Which app do you use?"), choose ChatGPT or Claude. The steps for that app appear.
  4. Use the Copy buttons for the two lines: Name (your gym's short name followed by "website") and Address (your gym's web address followed by /mcp).

In ChatGPT

  1. Go to chatgpt.com on a computer and sign in.
  2. Open Settings, choose Apps & Connectors (called Connectors on some plans), open Advanced settings and switch on Developer mode.
  3. Back in Apps & Connectors press Create. Paste the Name and the MCP server URL, leave Authentication on OAuth, tick that you trust the app, and press Create.
  4. ChatGPT opens your website in the browser. Sign in with your emailed code if asked, then press Yes, connect.
  5. Start a new chat, press +, choose Developer mode and pick your gym's connector, then type what you want changed.

In Claude

  1. Go to claude.ai/settings/connectors, or open the Claude app, and sign in.
  2. Open Settings, choose Connectors, press + Add, then Add custom connector.
  3. Paste the Name and the Address. Leave everything else as it is.
  4. Press Add. Claude opens your website in the browser. Sign in with your emailed code if asked, then press Yes, connect.
  5. Start a new chat and ask for what you want.

What you'll see

  • The consent page says "Let (app name) help with (your gym)'s website?", lists what it can and cannot do, and reminds you that every change is kept in History. Press No, cancel to stop.
  • Back on the AI assistant page the app is listed under Connected apps with who connected it, when, and when it was last used.
  • The assistant tells you what it is about to change and asks before it saves. Visitors see a change within about a minute.
  • Try the sample requests on the page, for example "Move Saturday open gym to 12 to 4."

Troubleshooting

The app says it could not reach or check the server. The connector is probably switched off. Check the top of the AI assistant page, switch it on and add the connector again.

"That request has expired." The connect request lasts 30 minutes. Go back to the app and press Connect again.

I cannot find where to add a connector. In ChatGPT you need a paid plan and Developer mode. In Claude some plans lack custom connectors. Reply to a NinjaHQ email and we will help.

"Not available right now." NinjaHQ has paused the connector for all gyms for the moment. Nothing was connected.

Questions

Do I need a paid ChatGPT plan?

Yes. ChatGPT custom connectors need a paid plan (Plus, Pro, Business or Enterprise), and on Business and Enterprise an admin may have to allow them. In Claude, some plans do not include custom connectors.

Can several people connect?

Yes. Each person connects with their own sign-in, so History shows who changed what. Different people can use different apps.

I do not see AI assistant in my menu.

NinjaHQ offers it gym by gym. If it has not been offered to your gym, owners do not see the page or the menu link. Contact NinjaHQ.
