What are abandoned checkout emails and how do I turn them on or off?

When someone gives their email, goes to Stripe to pay and does not finish, they get a short reminder. It covers shop orders, competition registrations, camp sign-ups, party bookings and online memberships.

Before you begin

• Only owners can change this setting.
• The abandoned checkout emails are on unless an owner turns them off.

Steps

1. Open Emails and find the Abandoned checkout emails card.
2. Tick or untick Send abandoned checkout emails.
3. Optional: tick Only to people who said yes to news (stricter; fewer reminders).
4. Press Save.

What happens

• A checkout counts as abandoned when it is still unpaid an hour after it was started.
• Reminders go after 1 hour and 24 hours. Competition registrations, camps and parties also get one at 72 hours, but not after the date has passed.
• Each email has one button, Finish checking out. Before opening Stripe again, the page checks that the spot or size is still available.
• The reminders stop once the person pays, unsubscribes, or starts another cart.
• Every email has an unsubscribe link and your gym's address.

What you'll see

The card shows, for the last 30 days, 90 days or 12 months: how many checkouts were abandoned and their value, how many were emailed and clicked, how many bought after clicking, how many bought later without clicking, the revenue recovered and the recovery rate. "Bought later" may have happened without the email.

Troubleshooting

Nobody is getting reminders. Check the box is ticked. Also, before your website is live, emails reach only staff and test addresses.

A family complains about the reminders. Each email has an unsubscribe link. Switching the setting off stops them for everyone.
