Who can I send news emails to, and how do unsubscribes work?

News goes only to people who ticked yes on a form or waiver. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribed or bounced people are skipped.

Where: Marketing > Emails

Who can do this: Owners, Managers

You can only send news (promotions, invitations, offers) to people who said yes. NinjaHQ records that yes for you and skips everyone who should not get the email.

How people say yes

People join the news list by ticking "Email me about news" on:

  • camp sign-ups, competition registrations and memberships;
  • the shop cart and party booking;
  • the front desk when you sell a class pack;
  • the waiver's own marketing opt-in.

A person's first sign-up point is remembered. Whether a typed address is subscribed is never revealed on a public form.

Where to see it

Open Emails. Three places matter:

  • The top row shows Said yes to news, Unsubscribed and Bounced / spam.
  • Where new subscribers come from shows each sign-up point with how many people went through it, how many were new subscribers and what share said yes. Switch between 30 days, 90 days and 12 months.
  • The card under Camp reminders has the option to start the news box ticked for US visitors (US gyms only). Tick or untick it and press Save.

What unsubscribing does

  • Every notice and news email has an unsubscribe link and the one-click unsubscribe Gmail and Yahoo ask for, plus your address at the bottom.
  • The link opens a page asking the person to confirm. They can undo it with "Oops, keep me on the list".
  • After that the person never gets that kind of email again, but still gets receipts and confirmations.
  • Addresses that bounce or mark you as spam are never emailed again. If complaints pass 0.3%, news emails pause until NinjaHQ and you have looked at it.

Troubleshooting

A family says they never get your news. They may have unsubscribed, bounced, or never ticked the box. The only fix is for them to tick the box on a form.

You cannot choose a news audience. Only people with a recorded yes appear in news audiences. Use a notice only for real news about something they bought or belong to.

Questions

Why is the news box already ticked for some visitors?

For US visitors of a US gym it starts ticked, where the law allows. Visitors in other countries always see it unticked, and people who are already subscribed do not see it. Owners can switch the starting tick off.

Can I add people to my news list myself?

No. Only a recorded yes from the person counts. That keeps your list legal and your emails out of spam.

Do unsubscribed families still get receipts?

Yes. Receipts and confirmations for things they buy still reach them.
