How do I see who visits my gym's website?
Open Analytics > Website traffic to see visitors, where they came from, which pages they read and what they did. Pick a date range with the buttons at the top.
Website traffic is your gym's own visitor report. It shows how many people visit your website, where they come from and what they do there, without cookies and without any outside tracking company.
Before you begin
- Nothing to set up. Counting starts when Analytics is switched on for your site, and the page says the date it is counting since.
- Owners, managers and other back-office staff can open it.
- Your own visits are not counted while you are signed in to the back office on that device.
Steps
- Open Website traffic from Analytics > Website traffic.
- Choose a date range with the buttons: Today, Yesterday, Last 7 days, Last 28 days, Last 90 days, Last 12 months, This month or Last month. Or type From and To dates and press the button beside them. The page always compares with the period just before.
- On the Overview tab, read the tiles (Visitors, Visits, Page views, Pages / visit, Avg. time and more). Click a tile to show it on the chart. Each tile shows the change compared with the earlier period.
- Use the tabs across the top to look closer:
- Right now: pages open at this moment and visits in the last 30 minutes.
- Sources: where visitors came from (channels such as search, social and email, referring sites, and campaigns).
- Pages: most viewed pages, landing pages and pages not found.
- Visitors: cities, states, countries, devices, browsers, screen sizes, languages, and a "When people visit" table by weekday and hour.
- Actions: the key events visitors took, such as clicking to book, tapping the phone number, sending a form or signing a waiver.
- What to improve, Videos, Speed & problems, Engagement, Forms and A/B tests. See How do I find out what to improve on my website?.
- To narrow the numbers, click a value in a table, such as a city or a channel. The page shows "Showing only" with that choice. Press Clear all to remove the filters.
- To save a table, press its Download link.
What you'll see
"Visitors" are different browsers in a day. "Visits" are sittings that end after a stretch with no activity. "Page views" are pages opened. A "bounce" is a visit that saw one page for under 10 seconds and did nothing. Open How this is counted at the bottom of the page for the full explanation.
Troubleshooting
It says no visits were counted in this period. Counting starts when Analytics is switched on, and visits appear within seconds. Open your website on a phone that is not signed in to the back office and watch the Right now tab.
My numbers are lower than another tool shows. See Why are my website visits lower than in Google Analytics?.
