How do I go live on my own domain?

On Launch > Getting started, type your domain under Your Domain and press Request my launch. NinjaHQ sets it up, then tells you when to change the nameservers.

Where: Launch > Getting started

Who can do this: Owners

Going live means your own web address, such as www.yourgym.com, shows your new NinjaHQ website. You start it from Getting started, and NinjaHQ does the technical work with you.

Before you begin

  • You must be an owner.
  • An owner has to accept the NinjaHQ Platform Agreement first. See How do I accept the NinjaHQ Platform Agreement?. Going live is blocked until it is accepted.
  • Connect Stripe first if you want to take payments on day one. You can request launch without it, and the page reminds you.
  • Know where your domain is registered. The Your domain card helps you find out.

Steps

  1. Open Getting started and scroll to Your domain. This card shows, from public records, where your domain is registered, who runs its DNS, who handles your email and when it expires. If it does not know your domain yet, it asks you to enter it in the launch step.
  2. Read the numbered steps in Moving it to NinjaHQ, step by step. They name your registrar (for example GoDaddy, Namecheap, Wix or Squarespace) with where to click, and a link to its help page.
  3. In the launch card Ready? Go live on your own domain, type your domain in Your Domain, for example www.yourgym.com.
  4. Press Request my launch. NinjaHQ adds your domain, copies your email records and emails you the exact DNS records.
  5. When NinjaHQ says go, sign in where the domain is registered and change the nameservers to the two NinjaHQ gives you: ns1.vercel-dns.com and ns2.vercel-dns.com. Remove any other nameservers. If your domain is locked, unlock it for now.
  6. Optional: on Go live, use Check the domain switch to watch how many DNS services around the world already point to your new site.

What you'll see

  • After you press the button, the card changes to Launch requested for your domain, with the date you asked.
  • When the change takes effect, your own address shows your new website, search engines can find it, test mode switches off, payments become real and customers get their emails. Your menu loses the Launch area.
  • Your current website stays up until the switch.

Troubleshooting

"Enter your domain." Type the address, with or without www., for example yourgym.com.

The card says the registry has no record of my domain. Check the spelling, or tell NinjaHQ if you need help registering it.

I cannot find the registrar login. Search your email for a receipt or renewal notice, or ask whoever set up your old website. If another company runs your DNS, such as a web designer, ask them to make the change. You can also use "Ask an expert to contact me" at the bottom of Getting started.

The domain expires soon. The card warns you to renew first so the switch does not run into an expiring domain.

Questions

Will my website go dark while the domain moves?

No. NinjaHQ adds your domain on its side first. Your current website keeps working until the change takes effect, which is usually within an hour and can take up to a day.

Will my business email keep working?

NinjaHQ copies your email records before you switch. Do not change the nameservers until NinjaHQ tells you the records are copied.

What if my domain is at Cloudflare?

Cloudflare domains keep Cloudflare's own nameservers. Instead of switching nameservers, you add two records in Cloudflare that point the domain at NinjaHQ, and NinjaHQ sends you them.

Who flips the final switch?

NinjaHQ marks your site live once the domain answers. Test mode then switches off by itself.
