How do I make an email list, like team parents?
In Customers > Contacts, tick the families, press + Add to a list and name it. Then open that tag and press Send a notice or Send news to email the list.
A list lets you email a whole group at once, such as the parents of your competitive team, a camp week, or everyone who tried a free class. A list is simply a tag you put on contacts.
Before you begin
- Owners and managers can make lists and email them.
- Children's emails go to their parent or guardian, so tagging the kids makes a list of parents.
Steps
To put families on a list
- Open Contacts and find the people. Use the search box, Tag and Show menus.
- Tick the box beside each person, or tick the top box to select everyone on the page. If more people match than fit on a page, press the Select all button (it ends with "that match" and shows the number) to take them all.
- Press + Add to a list.
- In List name, pick a tag you already use or type a new one, like "team parents". Press Add to list.
To email the list
- Pick the tag in the Tag menu (or click its chip).
- The bar Email the (tag) list shows how many have an email address and how many said yes to news.
- Press Send a notice for real news they need, or Send news for promotions (only people who said yes).
- You land on the Emails page with the list already chosen. Write the message, send yourself a test, check the count and send.
To take people off a list
- Open the tag, select the people and press Take off "(tag)".
What you'll see
- Tags show as colored chips on each contact and in the quick row at the top of the list.
- Teams you set up on the Teams page also get their own list, with a button to email the team's parents.
- People who unsubscribed or whose email bounced are left out automatically.
Troubleshooting
Send news is missing. Nobody on that list has said yes to news emails yet. You can still send a notice about real information.
Fewer people than I expected got it. Contacts without an email, bounced addresses and anyone who unsubscribed are skipped. See How do email consent and unsubscribes work?.
I see "Email them" but no list bar. The bar appears only after you choose a tag in the Tag menu.
Questions
Is a list different from a tag?
No. A list is just a tag on contacts. Any tag you have can be emailed as a list.
A team kid has their own email. Who gets the email?
The parent. Emails to a list go to the guardian's email when a child has one, and siblings only get one email.
What is the difference between a notice and news?
A notice is for real information families need, like a schedule change or camp details. News is promotion and only goes to people who said yes to news emails.
